Open Letter to the Southwestern School District Communities

Mission Statement

The Southwestern School District, in an active partnership with family and community, will provide educational excellence in a caring environment where all students learn and succeed. Within this environment, Southwestern students will grow academically, socially, creatively, and physically to achieve their greatest potential.

Welcome to Southwestern Community Unit School District #9. The majority of our student population lives in the towns of Brighton, Medora, Piasa, and Shipman which are located in Macoupin, Jersey, and Greene counties. Our district consists of six facilities that house over 1,600 students in Pre-K through twelfth grade.
Our goal of providing a safe environment while educating our students requires a team approach from school, home, and the community. Southwestern is fortunate to possess a faculty and staff that takes great pride in ensuring the safety of our students while maximizing their academic potential. Second, our students caring and involved parents want nothing more than their children to be safe and successful. Lastly, our students enjoy the support and recognition from our community members academically and athletically. As a result of this teamwork, our students are able to grow and mature year after year.
Student success and school pride have been long standing traditions in the Southwestern School District. These traditions require constant communication, hard work, dedication, and tremendous school spirit by all concerned parties. Help continue these traditions by being a part of the Southwestern Team. Go Birds!
