Southwestern CUSD #9 Students, Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
Greetings! I wish to introduce myself as I begin my journey as the Superintendent of the Southwestern School District. It was with great anticipation that I began this week and I have not been disappointed. I have found staff members eager to assist, working hard to see that I had everything I needed to support the students and staff of CUSD #9. I couldn’t have asked for a better first week.
Before joining the Southwestern team, I served as Hillsboro CUSD #3 Assistant Superintendent for 10 years, Hillsboro High School Principal for two years and Assistant Principal for five years. Prior to that, I served as Bunker Hill High School Principal for three years and Assistant Principal of Waterloo High School for 1 year. I began my career in education at East Alton Elementary District #13 as a Special Education Teacher and Football Coach.
I would like to thank Mr. Skertich for his outstanding service and leadership for the past nine years. It is obvious from talking to staff and community members that he had a tremendous impact on the District. His support as I’ve transitioned into this position has been extremely helpful.
Many changes are occurring in District #9. There are ongoing facility improvements such as the track/football field project, high school locker room improvements and roofing at the Middle School, initiated under the Board of Education’s guidance. The District is also undergoing curriculum and instructional changes such as the guided reading initiative in the lower grade levels. It is my goal to see these and many more improvements through, continuing the standard of excellence for which Southwestern CUSD #9 is known.
In my short time here, one thing has become extremely obvious to me and that is the passion the staff has for this District, the students and the communities that make it up. I am looking forward to establishing positive working relationships with everyone. If anyone would like to drop by and say hello, feel free. To ensure that I am in the office and your time will be appreciated, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 618-372-3813. I look forward to meeting everyone. It feels great to say I am PROUD TO BE PIASA!
